ELGAR THE DREAM OF GERONTIUS

SATURDAY 12 JUNE 2010
SUNDAY 13 JUNE 2010
Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House

Conductor: Brett Weymark

Aspiring choral singers have travelled from across Australia and even overseas to take part in Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ ChorusOz.

And in 2010, Artistic & Musical Director Brett Weymark invites you to join him for the most daring and ambitious ChorusOz yet.

This year’s chosen piece is one of the great choral journeys of the 20th Century, The Dream of Gerontius. Composed by Edward Elgar in 1900 to text by Cardinal Newman, Gerontius relates the voyage of a pious man’s soul from his deathbed to his judgment before God.

The oratorio is considered by many to be Elgar’s masterwork and ranks among Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation and Mendelssohn’s Elijah as the summits of the English choral repertoire.

Whether you have sung every day of your life or never sung before, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs welcomes you to come along for an unforgettable weekend of song.
