It
has been performed by chamber choirs and by choirs
of over a thousand. It has been heard in churches,
concert halls and opera houses. It has been played
on period instruments and the instruments of our
time. It has been added to by Mozart and refined
by recent scholars of performance practice. It has
been sung in German, French, Italian and even Chinese.
Yet through all these traditions and permutations,
one undeniable fact still remains: Handel’s Messiah is
one of the most remarkable works of the choral literature
and the only one that we perform every year without
fail. It is one of our favourite pieces and we perform
it this year with enough voices to raise the roof
off the Sydney Opera House.
Conductor: Brett Weymark
