“I know I must die! Someone has given me acqua toffana and has calculated the precise time of my death – for which they have ordered a Requiem,
it is for myself I am writing this.”

– Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Conductor: Brett Weymark
Soloists: Penelope Mills, Christopher Saunders, Simon Meadows
Sydney Philharmonia Chamber Singers and Orchestra

The Mozart Requiem condenses a universe of emotion into less than 60 minutes. Commissioned under dramatic circumstances, the grand choral work was left unfinished by Mozart when death took the quill from his hand. The circumstances surrounding its creation have since inspired more than two centuries of romantic exaggeration and wild speculation, including the play and
film Amadeus.

In this special concert series, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs will present Mozart’s Requiem in the heart of Sydney’s CBD at City Recital Hall Angel Place. With the convenience of lunch, early evening and evening concerts, you can experience this mysterious and sublime work in your lunch break, straight after work, during a weekend’s shopping or prior to dinner at a fine restaurant.

What could be better than experiencing one of the most personal, impassioned and profound pieces of music ever in just an hour?
