It is often forgotten that Brahms was fascinated by the music of Mozart and Haydn and that the textures of the classical period informed what has come to be one of the great works of the Romantic era, his Ein deutsches Requiem.
This performance, in a setting he wrote for a London performance in 1871 for two pianos, gives you a chance to hear the intricate choral writing with new clarity with the unique tone quality of the hand made Australian Stuart pianos.
The first part of this concert invites you to be a guest at our soirée in which we will enjoy the works of some of Brahms' contemporaries, such as Schumann and Wolf, as well as unveiling the Australian premiere of Eric Whitacre's little man in a hurry, based on a text by e. e. cummings.
Two of Australia's finest singers, Leanne Kenneally and Michael Lewis, lead us through this evening of poetic contemplation and intimacy.
