A note from Brett Weymark, Artistic & Musical Director:
On a recent visit to London, I visited Handel's house where he wrote Messiah and was moved to think of the huge impact this piece has had on composers, performers and indeed, the choral movement in general. It was all written in a small room in a busy metropolis, yet it raised people, as it does now, to
new heights by the amazing transformative powers of its message and music.
Every time we perform this work we find something new to explore and that is why we still sing it every year, and people still flock to hear our performances with over 400 choristers.
Great works such as these restore our equilibrium and indeed our sense of self, in a society governed by images and speed.
There is no other work like Messiah in the repertoire and we feel a sense of honour in bringing these performances to you in the Sydney Opera House.
