Imagine toiling for years as the architect of a massive
work of art, but never seeing the final product. Such is
the story of the B Minor Mass. Like Utzon, who never
saw his iconic Opera House, Bach was never to
hear his groundbreaking musical work performed.
Described often as one of the greatest art works
of all time, the B Minor Mass was not heard in its
entirety until over 100 years after his death.

From the intimacy of just a few instruments and a
singer to the complicated texture of double choir
and large orchestra, the B Minor Mass is on a level
unlike any other piece in the repertoire.

From the opening bars, as arresting as Beethoven's
Fifth, to the uplifting Dona nobis pacem that closes
the work, it is like a grand tour of the Baroque, where
every moment is a highlight.

Underpinning this monumental work is a genius of
design that makes it one of the marvels of musical
composition.
