Choral Music Education

Philharmonia Walsh Bay Centre for Choral Music

SPC education work addresses three important areas: singers, choral conducting and audience engagement.

We support a unique a program to train young conductors through our Assistant Chorus Master position. This year-long professional development opportunity gives talented musicians the chance to work with all the Philharmonia choirs in a full season of major symphonic choral works and a cappella programs.

SPC singers education supports singers at different levels of experience to extend their skills and understanding of choral repertoire through workshops, and participatory open massed choir projects and opens pathways for singers to progress into membership of advanced choirs.

What we want to achieve

  • Establish the SPC Wharf rehearsal space as a hub for choral singing.
  • Promote diverse skills workshops for singers of all levels.
  • Continue providing valuable training for young choral conductors.
  • Produce stimulating and engaging education events and resources to promote participation in choral singing and to support audiences in their discovery of the choral repertoire.
  • Engage a new education coordinator / dramaturge / writer.
  • Improve and refurbish the SPC rehearsal space: new flooring, lighting and archival storage.
