"VOX is that rare thing: an ensemble that makes music one might expect from seasoned professionals, but with a freshness, purity and spirit that only abides in youth". Todd Hawken, member of VOX
VOX – an exciting chamber vocal ensemble for skilled younger singers aged 16-26 years is one of four main choral groups that make up Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, Australia's largest choral organisation. VOX performs a wide repertoire with conductor Elizabeth Scott and Sydney Philharmonia Artistic & Musical Director Brett Weymark.
In 2011 VOX performs with the Festival Chorus at the Sydney Opera House in May singing Carmina Burana and at the Sydney Town Hall in September in a program called Brighton to Bondi where they will present the works of Australian composers.
Having previously performed as part of the larger Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in Sydney Symphony concerts such as Mahler 8 and Daphness and Chloe, this year VOX made its first appearance with the Sydney Symphony in its own right, independently of Symphony Chorus in February's performance of Peer Gynt. VOX also performed in May in Sydney Symphony's The Fellowship of the Ring.
In the last couple of years the profile of VOX has grown as a result of entertaining Flash Mob performances at venues such as the George Sreet Apple Store and in the Lights of Christmas program. SPC is looking forward to developing a range of innovative projects for this exceptional youth-focused ensemble in the coming years.
