ABOUT ChorusOz
Taking part in ChorusOz is a life-changing experience and one you will never forget.
ChorusOz was created in 2006 by Brett Weymark to allow those who couldn’t commit to a regular choir the opportunity to sing once a year on a world-class stage. It has since become a fixture in the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ calendar.
ChorusOz is an opportunity for singers of all levels to immerse themselves in a major choral work over a weekend, culminating in a performance of the music. In June 2025, the 17th ChorusOz will take place with hundreds of passionate singers from across Australia and the world performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, led by Artistic & Music Director Brett Weymark, with world-class soloists and the Sydney Philharmonia Orchestra.

ABOUT MOZART’S REQUIEM
Mozart’s Requiem is legendary in more ways than one. Even setting aside the popular fictions, there’s something deeply moving in the idea of a composer striving on his deathbed to finish his last creation, breaking off just a few lines into the heartbreaking lament of the Lacrimosa. And of his widow handing the music over to a student so it could be completed for the “mystery” client. It’s a well-known story – as familiar to music-lovers as the music itself.
Written in late 1791 and left unfinished on 5 December when Mozart died, several composers and musicologists have written completions over the 234 years since, but for this ChorusOz we will perform the one by his contemporary Franz Xaver Süssmayr. Even so, Mozart’s ultimate masterpiece overflows with his trademark sense of drama, heartfelt anguish and elegant beauty – a celebration of life and the life eternal.
