There is nothing like a musical! It’s one of everyone’s favourite things . . . An enchanted evening – the happiness in the tune – suddenly you’ll be bright and breezy, ready to wash the day’s cares right outta your hair!
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II: a musical partnership made in heaven. Immortal melodies, unforgettable lyrics – your heart will want to sing every song it hears. With the full Festival Chorus to serenade you, you’ll be whistling a happy tune before you know it.
The hall will be alive with the sound of music – oh, what a beautiful concert!
Rodgers and Hammerstein changed the very meaning of the musical, and Oklahoma! started it all. For the first time, the singing was part of the storyline: moving the plot forward, fleshing out the characters, binding the whole show together. With Carousel and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, they showed us that musicals didn’t have to be comedies; with South Pacific and The King and I, they gave us stories that made us think as well as laugh; with Flower Drum Song they challenged the idea that only white people could perform onstage. And with The Sound of Music, they created a classic where every single song is a hit. Come along and see for yourself!
