“The Sydney Philharmonia Choir… gave a sumptuous performance… Its ethereal sounds provided a rich musical texture adding to the expressive quality of the work.”
– New Zealand Arts Review, 2025 –
The Creation is an absolute tonic – invigorating music that’s been lifting spirits since 1798! According to Brett Weymark, it’s easily the best thing Haydn ever wrote and it’s a joy to sing.
It’s also a joy to hear – music by a composer at the peak of his genius, bringing every fibre of his imagination to the fertile possibilities presented by his creation narrative. Chaos… Light… The first sunrise… Floods and thunder… Living creatures… Heavenly joy… Earthly bliss… Every scene is vividly depicted in luminous musical colours.
Haydn’s Creation is the perfect work for the 120 voices of our Symphony Chorus and the theatrical instincts of our three soloists, taking on the roles of archangels and the first humans. Voice, energy, joy? This music has all three in abundance.
