World O World

In 2001, VOX gave its inaugural concert. Now this virtuoso ensemble is 25 years old – the average age of its members – and we’re celebrating!  Director Elizabeth Scott, celebrating her own 20-year anniversary with VOX, has devised a gorgeous program that revisits the choir’s origins and looks to the future.

For that first concert, VOX commissioned a new work from a young composer, Dan Walker, setting the tone for a repertoire that would look to Australia and emerging talent for inspiration.  For this 25th anniversary celebration, Dan has been invited to write a new piece for VOX and VOX alumni.

In between, we’re turning to music that represents the essence of VOX: a contemporary choral sound, virtuoso a cappella harmonising, and themes of spirituality, environment and community.  Some of the composers, such as Eric Whitacre, have worked with VOX in person; others, such as Aija Draguns, have come from within the ranks of VOX itself.  And as a highlight, we’re performing our latest ‘find’: World O World, a Gen-Z hymn by British trailblazer Jacob Collier.
