Emerging Composers

Emerging Composers

At Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, we believe it’s not only our responsibility to perform the great works of the past, but to support the music of the future. A major part of this support is our commissioning program, with over 60 works commissioned already, a number which grows year on year.

Now in its second year, our Emerging Composers Program is a direct investment in the future of Australian choral music. Each year, outstanding early-career composers are welcomed into the artistic life of SPC, working hands-on with our conductors and singers to develop, workshop and create new work to be performed by our musicians in amazing venues like the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Town Hall or White Bay Power Station.

In 2026, the SPC Emerging Composers are Courtney Cousins and Callum O’Reilly.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, upon whose Country we rehearse, sing and work, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Our voices bring to life the songs of many cultures and countries, from across the ages, in a spirit of sharing, learning and understanding.
